Graduate opportunties for international students

The CA qualification, delivered by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), is respected across the globe and the opportunity to train with ICAS is open to international students.

As long as you have the minimum entry requirements (a recognised undergraduate degree with a UK equivalent) and can meet the necessary three year work/study commitment, then you can apply. UK NARIC provides useful information for international students and degree compatibility. You can find everything you need to know on their website at http://www.naric.org.uk

If you are from outwith the European Economic Area and wish to work in the UK you must have permission under the UK Border Agency’s Points Based System for immigration – usually under Tier 1 or Tier 2.  For further information please visit http://www.myukinfo.com.

Once you’re satisfied you meet the entrance requirements you can apply for a CA training position. ICAS work with an exciting and diverse range of businesses that you can train with – from the big four practices to small and medium sized firms, public practice or industry and commerce. The training centre you attend will be dependant on where your authorised employer is based; currently we’re training across the UK in Luxembourg and in Jersey. Check out the employers section of this site for more information, or browse our Profiles to see what CA students and CAs do.

In order to be eligible for membership of ICAS an international student must:

  • Possess an overseas degree which is equivalent to a UK degree
  • Enter into a training contract with an ICAS authorised employer for the prescribed period, normally three years
  • Gain permission for immigration
  • Achieve a minimum of 450 days of technical work experience and meet certain competencies
  • Study and pass three stages of examinations
  • Complete a programme in business ethics
