Training on Jersey

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) has been offering the CA qualification on Island for since 2008. This leading chartered accountancy training is currently being taken by students on Island with prominent firms such as Ernst & Young and BDO Alto Ltd.

Jersey is widely recognised as a key financial services centre and a place where demand will always exist for well trained chartered accountants. The introduction of CA training on Island provides students with a pathway to an excellent career and employers with a valuable route for training staff that will add essential valuable to their business.

The qualification itself is regarded as the ‘gold standard’ in financial training available. It sets a high standard for students, covering subjects such as tax, business law, financial reporting and business ethics.

I was offered the choice of studying with ICAS and another qualifying body, but I chose the CA over and above the other for the following reasons. Firstly, the reputation of ICAS as a highly thought of, reputable and thorough professional body to qualify as a chartered accountant with, was appealing to me. Secondly, the learning and examination structure available (intensive study) suits the way I learn. Thirdly, the ability to study for and complete the qualification in Jersey was an added and much welcome bonus! The fact that emphasis is placed on both the exams and work based learning in order to become a member is also evidence that ICAS does not promote a culture of learning just to pass the exams; application is equally important.

In Jersey, all CA students are taught face-to-face by ICAS staff, who are themselves qualified CAs. And due to the intensive nature of the course students will be technically qualified within 12 months, quicker than any other professional accountancy body on Island.

In addition we are the only accountancy body on the Island to design, examine and deliver our qualification from start to finish. We believe that this ‘closes the gap’ between our frontline teaching, the students and their employers. It allows the delivery of the CA qualification to be as responsive as possible.
