Linzi Barr, CA student (TPE)
Aggreko Plc
Linzi decided to pursue a career in accountancy after weighing up her options at the University of Strathclyde before specialising in the field in her final year. Based in Glasgow, Linzi works for Aggreko Plc, a global leader in the rental of power and temperature control, as a trainee accountant where she is completing the ICAS Training Outside Public Practice scheme (TOPPs).
What does being ICAS trained mean for you?
I believe that the training you receive from ICAS both on the job and through the classes and exams pushes and challenges you. You learn a lot about business and at the end of the training contract you will have developed skills and gained knowledge that will rival any other qualification.
The attainment of the CA qualification shows that I am serious about developing my career. Also, as it has a reputation of excellence throughout the world, I am of the opinion that no matter where I go or what I progress onto, the CA qualification on my CV will stand as an illustration of the skills and knowledge I have gained.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
What stands out for me is looking back at the first two years of my training contract and understanding just how much I have learnt since then. I vividly remember my last day within my secondment in Internal Audit and thinking about the day that I started with Aggreko up until that point. I received some really positive feedback from the team and it gave me a great sense of achievement.
